Our Candidates

Josh Gordon

 For City Council

Josh Gordon was born and raised in Vancouver. He grew up in Kitsilano and attended UBC, studying Political Science and Economics in his undergrad. He has spent most of his life in the city and cares deeply about its future.

He has a PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto and was an Assistant Professor at SFU’s School of Public Policy for seven years. In 2021, he joined Statistics Canada, working on housing data. He is currently working on the measurement of poverty in the country.

His experience in public policy research has taught him how to reason through difficult policy decisions, and he understands how the data available to local governments can help them make better decisions.

Josh has been studying the Vancouver real estate market for over a decade, and housing and land use planning are central policy interests. He is also interested in addressing the longstanding issues around addiction and mental health in the DTES and elsewhere in the city – taking a new approach focused on treatment and prevention. On the lighter side, Josh wants to help foster a better night life scene for younger Vancouverites.

He hopes to contribute to TEAM’s legacy of neighbourhood empowerment – enacting governance changes that ensure that residents in different neighbourhoods have direct, binding democratic input on any large-scale zoning changes.

He lives in East Van with his young family.
