Previous Councils Got Us Into the Mess We’re In Today; TEAM Says It’s Time For a New Direction
(VANCOUVER, Oct. 2 2025) --TEAM for a Livable Vancouver announced today it is calling for expressions of interest for potential candidates in the 2026 Civic Election.
Vancouver’s last two general elections have been races to get rid of an unpopular and ineffective mayor and council, and 2026 is shaping up the same way. In both 2018 and 2022, the winners promised change but continued down the same disastrous path.
TEAM is here to advocate for real change for Vancouver, and seeks candidates who believe that residents matter. We’re looking for mayoral, council, school and park board candidates who think:
Residents and neighbourhoods deserve respect — and a voice — at City Hall instead of being shut out of the conversation. The Broadway Plan is an example of top-down planning that ignores the voices of residents and the impact on them and their neighbourhoods.
Development should deliver benefits to the city and its residents, not just the development industry. The current council has bowed to the industry at every turn; now it’s making concessions without requiring any community benefits.
The City should focus on core services and responsibilities within its jurisdiction and use tax dollars wisely. The current mayor’s promise of a “line-by-line” review and major savings never happened. Spending and property taxes continue to soar.
Residents deserve to feel safe in their neighbourhoods, and those in distress on our streets should get the care they need. While it’s the City’s job to properly fund police and the Province’s to deliver housing and health care, TEAM would work with the Province to help create the kind of facilities necessary to resolve the issues facing vulnerable residents.
TEAM wants Vancouver to vote for leaders with ideas that inspire them, not against politicians who have failed them. Our candidates will be committed to restoring balance so our city can develop sustainably and residents can afford to live here.
Residents eager to be part of the change Vancouver needs can express their interest by filling out TEAM’s Candidate For Office form.
