TEAM announces three more Park Board candidates

VANCOUVER, Aug. 27, 2026  - Today, TEAM for a Livable Vancouver announced three new candidates for Vancouver Park Board: Mayeli Alvarez, Jon Girard and Allan Fawley.

Alvarez and Girard are both directors of Protecting Our Vancouver Aquatic Centre Society, where they have been leading advocates for retaining a 50-metre pool as part of the Vancouver Aquatic Centre replacement. Both will bring strong advocacy for improving Vancouver’s aging recreation facilities and ensuring residents have a meaningful voice in decisions about them.

“TEAM is the only party that put the answer in writing,” said Girard. “Its Better Parks and Recreation for Everyone platform commits to retaining a world-class 50-metre pool at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre and funding the Park Board’s capital plan.” 

Girard is a software consultant and recreational swimmer who brings experience analyzing complex technical information and making it understandable for decision-makers. As founding managing director of Protecting Our Vancouver Aquatic Centre Society, he helped build the organization into an incorporated non-profit advocating for greater transparency and accountability in the Aquatic Centre replacement process.

Alvarez has a background in environmental design and architectural conservation and is a former competitive swimmer, regular recreation user and advocate for protecting Vancouver’s green spaces. She believes maintaining existing facilities, mature trees and accessible public spaces is essential to creating a more sustainable and livable city.

Allan Fawley is a Vancouver educator with 20 years of experience working with children and families in the public school system. With graduate degrees in urban planning and education, he brings expertise in urban design, public spaces, equity and community-building. He believes parks and recreation facilities are essential public infrastructure and should be accessible, well-maintained and responsive to the communities they serve.

All three candidates share TEAM’s commitment to protecting the elected Park Board, improving parks and recreation facilities, and putting residents back at the centre of decisions about Vancouver’s public spaces.
