TEAM supports a thorough review of multiplexes

VANCOUVER, May 19, 2026 – TEAM for a Livable Vancouver supports a full review of multiplexes with recommendations for zoning amendments and new design guidelines to address concerns.

TEAM is speaking out as the Standing Committee on City Finance and Services prepares to consider a motion to review the city’s multiplex policy, which many residents say is not working.

The party points out that more than 2,300 Vancouver residents have signed a petition calling on Council to stop the expansion of “massive and incompatible multiplex constructions” into neighbourhoods across the city.

TEAM says it’s high time for Council to put the interests of residents first and prioritize livability and stability in our neighbourhoods. It urges restoration of design guidelines to ensure that new construction is in keeping with existing neighbourhoods.

Critics say the current rules have led to the construction of unaffordable housing as well as the destruction of the tree canopy, congested streets, and shading.

In addition, TEAM says multiplex zoning should not replace the type of character zoning common in areas like Kitsilano that already allows for multiplexes through multifamily conversion dwellings and infill.
