OneCity Councillor’s vote raises questions about party’s stance

VANCOUVER, Aug. 6, 2026 -- TEAM for a Livable Vancouver is calling on William Azaroff, Frances Bula and other OneCity council candidates to state where they stand on the rejected Villages Plan.

Mayor Ken Sim and 9 City Councillors voted down the controversial plan on July 28. The only holdout was OneCity Councillor Lucy Maloney. She said her vote to support it was “symbolic,” claiming she gave Council’s ABC majority many opportunities to “improve and rescue” it.

Note to Maloney: No matter how thin you slice it, it’s still baloney!

Unlike her, ABC woke up and smelled the proverbial coffee. The vast majority of people who spoke to Council about the Villages Plan made it abundantly clear that they opposed its top-down, cookie-cutter approach to neighbourhood planning, which totally ignored residents’ concerns.

Vancouverites want to know if Maloney’s vote for the Villages Plan means that OneCity supports it, despite what was described as a “tsunami” of opposition. Or will she be voting against other members of the party if they are elected on Oct. 17?

Residents want a clear idea of what they’re voting for. As a party that’s based on neighbourhoods, TEAM opposes the Villages Plan and would ensure it stays dead after the election. The other, pro-developer parties could easily revive it, as it's still part of the city's Official Development Plan.
