VANCOUVER, Sept. 10  – TEAM for a Livable Vancouver today announced a plan to strengthen local businesses, attract investment and create good-paying jobs.

  • Create the Vancouver Economic Development Agency (VEDA), an independent, arm’s-length organization that will focus on attracting investment and head offices, supporting local businesses and creating high-paying jobs.

  • Revitalize Vancouver’s neighbourhood shopping streets with a $4-million revitalization fund to restore historic storefronts, strengthen independent businesses, improve public spaces and bring new life to the local commercial districts that give Vancouver’s neighbourhoods their character.

  • Diversify Vancouver’s economy beyond real estate development by supporting sectors where Vancouver and British Columbia have a competitive advantage. That includes technology, life sciences, critical minerals and mining, film and digital media, and tourism.

Since December 2022, Vancouver has added just 7,900 jobs – growth of only 1.7%. Other major Canadian cities have experienced much stronger job growth.

City Hall has treated real estate development as Vancouver’s main economic strategy for far too long. TEAM believes a livable city needs a diverse and thriving economy where businesses can start, stay and grow.

A TEAM City Council will make Vancouver more competitive, strengthen local  businesses and create more opportunities for residents to build careers and a future in our city.
