Parks & Recreation

What’s Gone Wrong

The mayor is trying to eliminate our Park Board, making it easier to sell off our green spaces to developers. The city has failed to properly fund park maintenance over successive mayors. As a result, over 70% of our recreational facilities have been labeled in “poor” or “very poor” condition.

The TEAM Difference

TEAM will implement our Better Parks and Recreation for Everyone plan. We will save the Park Board and protect parkland, improve and expand our parks and greenspaces, and pledge $739 million over four years to invest in our parks and recreation facilities

Our Solutions

1

Protecting
the Park Board

Save the Park Board from Ken Sim’s power grab and ensure its continued independence and self-sufficiency by transferring finance, operations and facilities back to Park Board jurisdiction

2

Expanding our City Parks Designations

Designate existing temporary and de facto parks as permanent parks to ensure their existence for generations to come.

3

Investing in our
Recreational Facilities

Ensure that our recreational facilities meet the needs of residents, such as ensuring the Vancouver Aquatic Centre replacement includes a 50-metre pool.

4

Planning our Parks & Recreation for City Growth

Ensure that the parks and recreation system is planned for expansion in alignment with population growth to provide a more livable present and future for our residents.
