TEAM for a Livable Vancouver also offers to undertake third party review
Vancouver (August 5, 2024) – In the interests of the transparency and accountability that Ken Sim and his ABC councillors campaigned on in 2022, TEAM for a Livable Vancouver calls on all members of council to affirm that no investigation of them by Integrity Commissioner Lisa Southern is now in progress, or is known to be impending, to assure Vancouverites there is no possibility of a conflict of interest in any councillor’s vote.
TEAM believes that during the Special Council Meeting August 6, any council member under investigation should bow out and let others decide if the “by-law to amend the Code of Conduct By-law No. 12886 regarding independent reviews” is to pass or not.
TEAM also calls on any councillor to move the necessary amendments to the proposed by-law to ensure there is no pause in the Integrity Commissioner’s current work while an independent third-party review takes place.
Further, TEAM for a Livable Vancouver is offering to conduct that third-party review itself. As set out in the motion passed by council July 24, the review will “ensure that the Code of Conduct and the scope of the Integrity Commissioner Office in providing oversight on the conduct of Council and Advisory Board Members is clear and that the text and operation of the By-law is effective, including but not limited to an examination of the scope, processes, and procedures for receiving and addressing complaints by the Integrity Commissioner.”
