TEAM for a Livable Vancouver offers to conduct third-party review
Vancouver (September 23, 2024) – TEAM for a Livable Vancouver is again calling on all members of City Council to confirm that Integrity Commissioner Lisa Southern isn’t investigating them – and has no plans to do so to their knowledge.
Ken Sim and his ABC councillors promised transparency and accountability when they campaigned in 2022. They face the choice of living up to that pledge at the Special Council meeting scheduled for Sept. 25. TEAM believes any Council member under investigation should bow out and let others decide if they want to pass the by-law to amend the Code of Conduct (By-law No. 12886) regarding independent reviews.
That would assure Vancouverites that there’s no possibility of a conflict of interest when councillors vote.
TEAM also calls on any councillor to move the necessary amendments to the proposed by-law to make sure there’s no pause in the Integrity Commissioner’s work during an independent third-party review.
TEAM for a Livable Vancouver is offering to conduct that third-party review. The motion passed by Council on July 24 states the review will ensure that the Code of Conduct and the scope of the Integrity Commissioner Office in providing oversight of the conduct of Council and Advisory Board Members are clear. The motion also says a review will ensure the text and operation of the by-law are effective – including an examination of the scope, processes, and procedures for receiving and addressing complaints by the Integrity Commissioner.
