Party says tenants facing eviction need more protection
VANCOUVER, May 18 — TEAM for a Livable Vancouver stands with tenants of a Mount Pleasant apartment building who face eviction due to the City’s controversial Broadway Plan – without being offered the Plan’s tenant relocation and protection. That’s because such protection is not available if the development proposal is for a hotel.
The rezoning application would see the 29-unit building at 75 East 8th replaced by a 21-storey, 190-room extended-stay hotel. It’s just another example of how the Broadway Plan and the recently approved city-wide Official Development Plan (ODP) ignore the rights and concerns of local residents and allow developers free rein.

“We applaud the initiative of the building’s residents in forming the Myron Manor Collective in a fight to save their home,” said TEAM mayoral candidate Colleen Hardwick. “Residents matter. Why would we destroy affordable housing in favour of short-term rentals for so-called digital nomads?”
Critics point out that under the Broadway Plan tenant relocation protection is at best minimal – and in this case, non-existent.
A TEAM-majority City Council would beef up such protections and put the Broadway Plan and the ODP on hold.
