After two years of Ken Sim and ABC does anyone feel Vancouver is on the right track?
VANCOUVER, B.C. (January 20, 2025): TEAM for a Livable Vancouver has announced it will run two strong candidates in the upcoming by-election in Vancouver.
TEAM President Colleen Hardwick said she expects City Council to call the by-election for April 5th when it meets January 21st. TEAM will hold its nominating meeting on February 1st.
“The Greens' Adriane Carr, and One City’s Christine Boyle, have forced Vancouver taxpayers to spend over $2 million after they resigned their seats on council with little thought about the impact on Vancouver residents,” explained Hardwick, a former city councillor. “Like other Vancouverites, I’m disappointed that the Greens and One City have put taxpayers in this costly situation. But I’m excited that we will have two TEAM candidates that will run to hold the ABC super majority to account, particularly when you see how little they’ve done over the past two years. Frankly, our city is still unaffordable, taxes are through the roof, and our streets and neighbourhoods continue to be hit daily with crime and public disorder. Is anyone in Vancouver feeling our city is on the right track after two years of Ken Sim and ABC?”
Hardwick said Vancouverites gave ABC an overwhelming majority in the last municipal election, but they haven’t delivered for taxpayers or neighbourhoods.
“Whether it’s tax increases, ignoring growing neighbourhood concerns about density and displacement around the Broadway Plan, or abolishing the Park Board without giving voters their say, ABC has squandered their majority and sidelined voters and taxpayers, treating them like ATMs.”
Hardwick said TEAM has also called on Elections BC again to conclude its investigation of ABC Vancouver’s handling of prohibited campaign contributions in the 2022 civic election. ABC’s sixth amendment of its 2022 Election Disclosure statement dated December 4, 2024, shows it was forced to continue making refunds to donors as recently as November 1, 2024.
“Elections BC has had two years to get to the bottom of the ABC irregularities and Vancouver voters deserve answers before going to the by-election polls in April,” said Hardwick.
